Kentuckians have long been among the few Amazon.com customers to be charged sales taxes on their purchases thanks to the online retailer’s warehouses in our state.
That’s changing, however. On Saturday Amazon will finally begin collecting California’s sales tax, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Earlier this year, the world’s largest online retailer agreed to begin collecting Indiana’s 7 percent sales tax in 2014 in a deal with outgoing Gov. Mitch Daniels.
Amazon is at work on a Jeffersonville fulfillment center that will employ about 1,000.
As far as I know, you can still avoid sales taxes on Amazon with purchases shipped to Indiana. Check out this little demonstration of mine from last year.
